PCT Day 67... Comfort

PCT Day 67... Comfort

I woke up just before my alarm to a stunning site. The view from where I lay was awesome, with the valley cast in shadow as the sun was rising. With a view like that to wake up to, it reminded me of one of the reasons I came out here…

PCT Day 55... Will Hike for Food

PCT Day 55... Will Hike for Food

Packing up camp took even less time than yesterday, thanks to not having any tent to pack away. I got out of camp in less than 20 minutes after getting up. I started today by climbing up to a ridge and hiking along it, passing a ski lift.

PCT Day 53... Desolation Wilderness

PCT Day 53... Desolation Wilderness

I had planned on sleeping in this morning, as I had not been able to go to bed until 10 pm the previous evening - the latest I have been up so far the summer. The plan did not hold up due to a combination of my alarm going off early and others making noise outside the room…

PCT Day 52... Gear Swap

PCT Day 52... Gear Swap

I caught a bus up to where I was going to spend the night, while I waited for my backpack to come in. I ran and bought a larger water filter since the old one’s flow rate was so bad. As I was walking to the hostel, I got a message that my backpack had been delivered to the FedEx store

PCT Day 49... Glissading Down 200 ft

PCT Day 49... Glissading Down 200 ft

The descent was more interesting; we could either hike around this bowl of ice along the trail or glissade about 200 feet down and bushwhack from there. We choose glissading. Lucky Hat went first and he sped down the ice, not using his ice axe much to slow him.

PCT Day 39... Ascending the Steep Icy Slopes of Pinchot Pass

PCT Day 39... Ascending the Steep Icy Slopes of Pinchot Pass

Oliver, Lucky Hat, and I have found that waking up at 4 am and then getting on the trail by 4:30 works well, since then we only have to use our head lights for about 30 min before it is light enough to see. And so today, we did just that, leaving camp at 4:30 to begin our ascent of Pinchot Pass…

PCT Day 36... Incredible Views Hiking Forester Pass

PCT Day 36... Incredible Views Hiking Forester Pass

Our plan was to set up for getting into town to resupply tomorrow morning. We woke up at 3:30 am to hike over Forester Pass, which is the tallest point on the PCT. It was an icy 4 mile uphill trek to the pass. We hiked by the light of our headlights, until about 5:15 am when there was enough light to see.

PCT Day 27... The Forbidden Words

PCT Day 27... The Forbidden Words

While each day offers new experiences, some things are beginning to feel routine. Today began like so many other days, the rhythm of getting up, packing gear, and hiking out. It was an extremely pretty morning with the sun coming out over the mountains…

PCT Day 14... The Lost Blog

PCT Day 14... The Lost Blog

If you’ve been following my blog, you might be wondering how we have another “day 14”. As I’m posting from the trail sometime service can be spotty, and it’s easy to mix up the days and photos. You might recognize the pictures, but here’s a new story for you to enjoy!
