PCT Day 67... Comfort

PCT Day 67... Comfort

I woke up just before my alarm to a stunning site. The view from where I lay was awesome, with the valley cast in shadow as the sun was rising. With a view like that to wake up to, it reminded me of one of the reasons I came out here…

PCT Day 66... Castle Crags Wilderness

PCT Day 66... Castle Crags Wilderness

From where I camped, it was a five mile downhill hike to the highway to get into town. It only took me about an hour and a half to cover that distance. It was really just an access road for the highway. When I arrived, there was another guy waiting for his friends…

PCT Day 61... Horsepower

PCT Day 61... Horsepower

After finishing up writing the blog last night, I visited with Chris, the man who camped near me until about 9 pm. It turned out that he was a section hiker. Chris had hiked from Campo to Beldon and then flipped up to Oregon and headed north about 30+ years ago.

PCT Day 59... Sobo vs Nobo

PCT Day 59... Sobo vs Nobo

About a mile before I stopped for the day, I met a group of three hikers that were having dinner. We talked for a bit and they told me about a north bound hiker named Sobo.  Sobo is short for South Bound. Apparently she got her trail name for how often she gets turned around and goes the wrong way down the trail.

PCT Day 58... Across Town & Back Again

PCT Day 58... Across Town & Back Again

At some point during the night, a deer decided to come to hang around my campsite. I woke up several times to the sound of it walking next to my tent. Before leaving camp, I felt the urgent call of nature and grabbed my shovel to answer that call. I started hiking at 6 am and did not stop, but to fill up water, until 2 pm.

PCT Day 56... Bad Dog, Good Dog

PCT Day 56... Bad Dog, Good Dog

The terrain was up and down hills, through wooded areas, reminding me of hiking on the Appalachian Trail. I saw a good number of weekend and section hikers out and as I got close to the road, a lady was walking with her dog, who fortunately was on a leash, barked and snarled at me. I continued and reached the road at 11:30.

PCT Day 54... Swapping Philmont Stories

PCT Day 54... Swapping Philmont Stories

I decided that I was going to go back to waking up at 5:30 am, so I woke up and was completely packed up by 5:50 - a ten minute improvement from normal! I felt 10 times better today, compared to yesterday, after a good night sleep.
