I caught a bus up to where I was going to spend the night, while I waited for my backpack to come in. I ran and bought a larger water filter since the old one’s flow rate was so bad. As I was walking to the hostel, I got a message that my backpack had been delivered to the FedEx store
We started later than normal, sleeping in till 5:30am, before getting packed up. The goal was to get to Toulomne meadows by 9 am since, if the store there is operating, that’s what time it would be open. We had two different people tell us it was open for the season and two others that said it was not.
Our plan was to set up for getting into town to resupply tomorrow morning. We woke up at 3:30 am to hike over Forester Pass, which is the tallest point on the PCT. It was an icy 4 mile uphill trek to the pass. We hiked by the light of our headlights, until about 5:15 am when there was enough light to see.
Today, Oliver and I spilt from the main group. The previous evening, the main group decided to take two days to get to the base of Mount Whitney, while Oliver and I were going to do the 24 miles in one day. We woke at 5:10 and were on the trail at 5:50, ready for another day in the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountains.
I hiked mainly on my own, not seeing any of our group until around 2:00 in the afternoon. I was stopped at a water source, relaxing when Oliver came hiking up. He joined me in filling up water. He told me that the part of our group that had not made it to camp last night, had stopped about a half mile before, and joined another group who had built a fire.
