Day 62...Dog Days of Summer

I woke up and immediately and thought that I had slept through my alarm since it was very bright outside. When I grabbed my watch, it turned out we had 15 minutes to rest before we needed to get going. So, I flopped back down and just laid there awake.  It turns out Plant did the same thing.

It was very hot today.  Summer has set in and it is obvious that we are in the midst of the dog days of summer.

While hiking, we passed a big group of hikers in uniform.  It was the Civil Air Patrol, which from what I could gather, is a group similar to the Boy Scouts, except more paramilitary looking. As we passed, half of the group were singing the Phineas and Ferb theme song.

Our next major goal is my cousin Dave's house.  He lives near West Point on the Hudson River.  We plan to be there on July 18th and visit also with my Aunt Gayle.  We are hiking hard to get there and plan to take a zero day on the 19th.  It will be Plant's first zero day since he started hiking more than a month ago.  We are currently approximately two days behind my original schedule.  We think we can make that time up after resting with family.

Just another day on the trail - we sleep, eat, hike, snack, hike, lunch, hike, snack, then hike again, eat and sleep. We try to get a least 8 hours of rest a night.
