Welcome to Long Trail Adventures! I’m excited to share my hiking adventures with you, especially as I embark on the Pacific Crest Trail this summer.

I start my thru-hike PCT on May 18. I will begin my hike near the border of Mexico and will travel through California, Oregon, and Washington across the border of Canada to the finish line in British Columbia.

Lutheran Church Charities K-9 Comfort Dog’s

This trip goes beyond merely hiking the trail. I’m teaming up with Lutheran Church Charities (LCC) K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry to provide support for their program. LCC trains dogs to visit churches, schools, libraries, nursing homes, fire & police departments, shopping centers, restaurants, and airports.

About Matthew Warrick

I’m proud to call myself a local Austinite and Eagle Scout. My love for backpacking began at Philmont Scout Ranch located in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of New Mexico when I participated backpacking trek with Troop 505 followed by a Rayado Trek.

“I am proud to call you [Matthew] a fellow Scout and Texan.” - Governor Greg Abbott

Summer of 2017, I thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail (AT); an adventure that I will remember for the rest of my life. I accomplished the entirety of the trail: 2,190 miles through 14 states from Georgia to Maine in 107 days.

My primary goal of hiking the AT was to raise money for the Mtinko Well Project to provide sustainable means of getting safe drinking water for a small village in Tanzania Africa. Friends, family, and the scouting community came together to help raise $5,450 for the project!

Paying it Forward

The community of supporters from my blog following cheered me along each step of the expedition.  Often unexpected assistance kept me motivated and moving towards the finish line. This community of supporters was incredibly kind and helped with anything from taking me out for a hot meal to helping with me with any supplies I needed.

Scramble, be Flexible

As an Eagle Scout, I continue to grow and expand my skills. This past summer I had the opportunity to work at Philmont Scout Ranch and Northern Tier High Adventure Base. “Scramble, be Flexible” was embraced as the fires caused Ranch closures. As a result, I was recommended as a guide to lead crews in Boundary Waters at Northern Tier where I enjoyed the opportunity to lead crew for the weeklong voyages.
